Lee Valley skates to the top

Talented skaters from Lee Valley Ice Centre in Leyton, East London, put in some incredible performances at the recent British Synchronised Skating Championships and National Opens in Sheffield in November

In the National Opens, Lee Valley Senior Team - Aura - and Adult Team - Orion both brought home gold medals. The newly formed Elementary Team - Supernova – were silver medallists, while the Intermediate Team - Phoenix - won bronze.

In the British Championships, recent additions to the Lee Valley skate school, Rory Shanahan and Katielouise Bagnall came fourth in their first ever Junior Championships (the pair were formerly Novice Champions), while Lee Valley regulars Sarah May and Michael Coward came third for the second year running. Other Lee Valley highlights included Caitlin Gilmore placing thirteenth in the Novice Ladies in her first ever championships  and Jono Partridge coming in sixth in the Senior Men’s competition

To top of the recent success, Lee Valley Ice Centre has also recently played host to seven times British Senior champions John and Sinead Kerr, who attended a European Monitoring session at the Centre with an international specialist coach training them ahead of the European Championships in January. Although based in the US, the couple train at Lee Valley as much as possible when they are in the UK.

The Lee Valley Ice Centre is the regional centre of excellence for London and the South East of England. The Centre was opened by Olympic ice dance champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean in 1984 and today provides ice skating for all levels and abilities, from beginners to international competitors.

Lee Valley Ice Centre is part of the 10,000 acre, 26 mile long Lee Valley Regional Park, which offers a unique combination of riverside trails, country parks, nature reserves and urban oases which are free and open to the public 365 days of the year.
